A little clarity from Si

Your Florida home insurance quote checklist.

Get the home details together once, then shop with less back-and-forth. Check off what you have, print your list or share it with someone buying a Florida home.

Use what you have. You can start shopping at any time.

Start with the basics

  • Use the home you want to insure. If you’re buying, keep your current mailing address handy too.

  • Be ready to explain whether you live there, use it seasonally or rent it out. Mention any vacancy or short-term rental use.

  • Have your renewal or closing date available. Jenna will help confirm the effective date before you buy.

Gather the home records you have

  • Look for a replacement invoice, permit or inspection report. If you don’t know, say so; a guess should not become a confirmed roof fact.

    Where to find roof details
  • Keep the year built, living area, construction details and any plumbing, electrical or heating/cooling updates available. Si may find some details for you to check.

  • Keep any wind-mitigation or four-point report handy. These reports serve different purposes. Ask which is needed before paying for a new inspection.

    Understand the two inspections

Prepare for the price check and review

  • The declarations page helps you discuss limits, deductibles and your current price. You can start without an existing policy.

  • ShopInsure asks for name, email, phone and date of birth before requesting carrier prices. Have them ready for the private price-check flow; don’t put them in a shared checklist.

  • Be ready to discuss previous property claims, unrepaired damage, planned work and any lender instructions with Si or Jenna.

  • Ask about coverage limits, hurricane and other deductibles, roof-loss settlement, exclusions, flood needs and remaining requirements. A price alone does not confirm the coverage.

    Compare more than the price

This checklist keeps checkmarks only while this page is open. It doesn’t ask for your address or contact details. Checking every item is not an eligibility decision or a guarantee of a quote.

A few questions before you start.

Do I need everything on the list to begin?

No. You can begin with your property address. Si will ask for the details needed for your price check. Tell Si when something is unknown, and ask Jenna which records or inspections a company needs before you spend money collecting them.

Is this for a home I live in or a rental property?

ShopInsure supports Florida homeowners (HO3) and rental-property (DP3) price requests. Explain the actual use of the home; the available options depend on the property and each company’s requirements. Tenant renters insurance and commercial buildings are different requests.

Can I use my current insurance policy?

Yes. You can have Si read a policy PDF in the shopping conversation, then check the proposed details before using them. You can also enter your information without uploading a policy.

Does a completed checklist mean I’m insured?

No. The checklist only helps you prepare. Jenna reviews the actual carrier quote and helps with the steps required to buy. A price result or review request does not purchase a policy or start coverage.

Why keep the inspection and coverage records?

A four-point inspection covers the roof and the home’s major systems. A wind-mitigation report documents features relevant to wind-related credits. Requirements vary, so ask which reports are needed. Florida’s insurance consumer guidance also recommends comparing coverage, deductibles and exclusions when shopping.
